�The avowed purpose of the SCA is the study and recreation of the European Middle Ages, its crafts, sciences, arts, traditions, literature, etc. The SCA "period" is defined to be Western civilization [including trading partners] before 1600 AD, concentrating on the Western European High Middle Ages. Under the aegis of the SCA we study dance, calligraphy, martial arts, cooking, metalwork, stained glass, costuming, literature... well, if they did it, somebody in the SCA does it (Except die of the Plague!).
As you can probably guess, the thing that separates the SCA from a Humanities 101 class is the active participation in the learning process. To learn costuming, you design and build costumes. To learn SCA infantry fighting, you make armor, weapons, shields, etc., and put them on and go learn how it feels to wear them when somebody is swinging a (rattan) sword at you. To learn brewing, you make (and sample!) your own wines, meads and beers��

Canale Yahoo List � This list serves as our newsletter. Meeting locations and times are generally confirmed on the list a day or two prior to the meeting. If fighter practice is moved or cancelled due to weather, it will be posted to this list on the day that practice is scheduled. A & S classes, workdays and other Shire activities are detailed as well. Follow the directions from the link above to sign up.
Business Meetings are usually held the Second Wednesday of the Month. We will be on a special schedule for February. Business meetings are open to the public and are a great place to go if you have questions that need answering or want a chance to participate in the SCA close to home.
Medieval attire is not required for any shire activities, meetings, or practices, but we request that folks make an attempt to wear pre-1600 clothing for events.

Other Activities are held on a by interest basis. Is there a medieval activity you have always wanted to learn that you don�t see listed here? Contact the Chatelaine or comment on the Yahoo group and we will see what we can do to help.

Fighter Practice covers Medieval Armored Combat and Renaissance Civilian Combat. We have programs for both youth and adults. Practice times and locations vary. Please check out the Calendar for specifics or contact the Chatelaine to express an interest.
